4 Quick Ways to Get Water Out of Your Child's Ears

Very often, when we swim, water gets trapped in our ear canal. We sometimes feel a ticklish sensation, otherwise, it feels like we cannot quite hear quickly when our coaches and friends talk to us.

The water in your ears generally drain out on its own, but sometimes, if it doesn’t, it can lead to ear infection.

As such, we have prepared for you 5 easy ways to help your child get water out of their ears.

  1. Let Gravity Help You

This first method may shake the water out of your ear right away. Gently tug your earlobe while tilting your head in a downward motion towards the ground. You can also try getting the child to shake their head from side to side while tilting their heads down.

2. Lie down and wait

Lie on the affected side for a few minutes with the towel on the affected side. The water may slowly drain out of your ear.

3. Yawn or chew some food

When water gets stuck in the eustachian tubes, moving your mouth can sometimes help to open the tubes.

Yawn or chew some food to relieve tension, then tile your head to release any water trapped.

4. Use a hairdryer

The heat from the hair dryer can help evaporate the water inside your ear canal.

  1. Set your hairdryer to its lowest heat.

  2. Hold the hair dryer about 30cm away from the ear and move it in a back-and-forth motion.

  3. While holding down on the earlobe, let the warm air blow into the ear.
